Directions:

  1. Add all of your ingredients to a medium bowl.

  3. Serve with Lay’s plain potato chips for dipping.

The dip can be kept in the refrigerator for a day or two, but it never lasts that long around here.

Alternate Ingredients:

  • Small cooked shrimp in a can may be used in the place of crab meat.
  • While I prefer the real thing, imitation crab meat can be used. Chop it up finely or use a hand mixer to shred the imitation crab sticks into nice, small pieces.
  • Use Greek yogurt, fat free plain yogurt, or low fat Miracle Whip in place of the full fat version.
  • Try using seafood sauce instead of ketchup.
  • Add in Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, worcestershire sauce, or fresh lemon juice for stronger flavors.
  • A splash of hot sauce or some cayenne pepper will give you a spicy crab dip.
  • Include some chopped up water chestnuts or green onions in your dip.
  • If you have some extra time, use this recipe as a base for a layered crab dip. Spread the dip over the bottom of a serving dish or pie plate. Add layers of seafood sauce, chopped green peppers, tomato, mozzarella cheese, and green onions.

Tips and Tricks:

  • If you want to offer more than just the Lay’s chips for dipping, try your favorite crackers (we especially love Ritz crackers), pita chips, tortilla chips, pita bread, or slices of French bread. You could also offer raw vegetables, like carrot sticks, celery, and cucumber.
  • For all the keto folks at your next gathering, offer cheese whisps or celery sticks with this tasty appetizer.
  • Store any leftover dip in the fridge, in an airtight container or covered snuggly with plastic wrap.
