Dr Seuss Party Invitation

I had so much fun creating these unique invitations! I put a challenge out (during one of my crops) to create something using old ribbon spools. Let me tell you – it took a long time to think up these cute ‘clovers’. My inspiration – the clover that Horton finds in ‘Horton Hears a Who’. I even included the ‘speck’ where Whoville is located (the green ball). LOL

The Tutorial:

Dr Seuss Party InvitationStep 1
Paint a ribbon spool white

Dr Seuss Party InvitationStep 2
Adhere a strip of green paper to the inner section of the spool (my strip was 1/2″ x 8″)

Dr Seuss Party InvitationStep 3
Cut 3, 1/2″ x 12″ strips of pink paper and adhere together to make one long 36″ strip

Dr Seuss Party InvitationStep 4
Using a hot glue gun, glue one end of your pink strip to the inner green section of the spool. Wined the pink paper around your spool.

Dr Seuss Party InvitationStep 5
Using a piercing tool, poke a hole through the strips of paper and inner spool. Poke a brad through the hole to hold the pink paper in place.

Dr Seuss Party InvitationStep 6
Using a hot glue gun, glue pink feather boa to the top of your spool.

Dr Seuss Party InvitationStep 7
Cut out alternating green and yellow paper 1/2″ x 1 1/2″

Dr Seuss Party InvitationStep 8
Glue paper onto a dowel (my dowel was 3/8″ x 12″)

Dr Seuss Party InvitationStep 9
Insert dowel into hole in spool

Dr Seuss Party InvitationStep 10
Glue a green pom pom onto the end of the dowel

Dr Seuss Party InvitationStep 11
Glue pink feathers to sections of dowel that remain visible

The Invitation:

The time is at hand,
so an invitation to you,
for Cameron and Isaiah’s party,
soon they’ll be two!
October is the month,
24th is the day,
on Saturday from 11-2,
we’ll play.
Oh the places they’ll go,
oh the fun things they’ll do!
They’re saving for a play structure,
good enough for a Who.
So rather than a gift,
please bring a donation in lui.”

I used:
CTMH Sweet Leaf, Hollyhock and Sunkiss Yellow cardstock
CTMH White Daisy Brad
Hot Glue Gun
Pom Pom and dowel from Michaels
Ribbon spool and boa – Misc.
