Simple gifts are often the most sought after for Christmas. I love creating something personalized and funny for the ones I love because often these gifts are more meaningful. This Grinch mug gift idea is no exception with it’s “resting Grinch face” saying on the back. Perfect for an early morning coffee at the office! Easy gifts like this don’t take a lot of time, effort or even money to create. Let me show you how to make your own Grinch mug…
I have been to our local dollar store a lot recently because I was working on creating this Elf Movie Gift Idea for my annual Elf party this year. A couple of the mugs that I had bought broke when I accidentally knocked them off of the counter in the process of crafting with them. When I went to the store to pick up more mugs I spotted this fun green one (love this colour) and immediately knew that I needed to make a Grinch mug!
I mean, seriously! How cute is this mug?! And it was totally easy to make.
How to create a Grinch mug:
Start by downloading a Grinch image to your cutting software. I used a Silhouette cutting machine to cut the image out of adhesive vinyl. Simply grab a Grinch image that you like, trace it with your software and have the machine cut it out of black vinyl. It you want to use a cut file for this project instead you could use this Grinch SVG from Cheryl at That’s What Che Said. Or even simply sketch the image onto the mug with a paint pen!
I used yellow puff paint to colour in the Grinch’s eyes. The bright yellow adds a pop of personality to this project I think. You could use a yellow paint pen, yellow vinyl or yellow acrylic paint and a brush to fill in the eyes instead. Now all that’s left to do is fill the mug with goodies!
What to fill this Grinch mug with:
- Impress press on nails
- Gift certificate
- Homemade goodies like these Peppermint Dipped Chocolate Cookies
- Face masks and spa products
- Packaged hot cocoa and marshmallows
- Handmade Christmas ornaments
Once you have filled the mug with goodies, stuff it with tissue paper, wrap it in clear cellophane and gift it to the person who you know will appreciate it the most. You know, the one with the best “resting Grinch face”. Add this Roll a Grinch Game or Pin the Heart on the Grinch Activity to the mug for a completely Grinch-a-fied gift!
I found clear cellophane and embellishments at the dollar store. These mugs were only $1 so filled with candy and wrapped this gift costs no more than $5. It would make the perfect friend or teacher gift.
What would you put in these mugs? Who would you give this Grinch mug gift idea to?
