Simple Lace Denim Skirt

Quick, easy sewing projects can sometimes be the most rewarding.

I find skirts for little girls to be super fun and straight forward to make!
If you can sew a straight line then you are good to go.
Honestly!

I made this skirt for my niece who is starting kindergarten in the fall.
This simple lace, denim skirt will be a cute addition to her back-to-school wardrobe.
My little niece lives in another town so with a bit of bribery Cameron is modelling it for us today 😉

Here’s how to make your very own skirt…

Simple Lace Denim Skirt

1. Measure the child’s waist {our 5 year old was 22 inches} and add about 10 inches.  You may want to add more inches for a fuller skirt.  Divide that number in half {ours was 16 inches}.  Now cut two rhomboid shapes out of your fabric.  The top of the shape should be your first measurement {16 inches} with each side tapering out about 5 inches to the bottom of the skirt {which measured 26 inches for us}.  For a bit longer than knee length the skirt the fabric should measure about 22 inches long.  Our rhomboid was 16″x22″x26″.

2. Serge all of the edges of each piece of fabric.  You can double fold the edge and sew it under if you don’t have a serger.

3. Sew the lace to the right side of each piece of fabric.  I used over 104″ of lace and pinned it into place before sewing.

4. Continue to sew on lace until you have the amount of layers that you want.

5. Now sew the sides of the skirt together, right sides facing.

6. Fold the top of the skirt over about 1 inch and sew a casing for the elastic to go into.  Leave a 1 inch hole for the elastic to go into.  Use a safety pin to thread the elastic through the casing.  I used about 20 inches of non roll elastic.  Sew the hole closed and you are done!
